What is the reason to get in touch with a foreign culture? What is the reason why we need to know a foreign country? What are the elements that are common between Greece and Georgia that will bring the two cultures together?
MEET GEORGIAN CULTURE: THE CONTACT
From the history of Georgia we know that this country has been inhabited by the Georgian tribe for much more than 2,000 years. Their language is the one spoken by their ancient ancestors. Their religion is Orthodox Christianity. The Argonauts” myth of the Golden Fleece tells us about the journey of the ancient Greeks to the coast of Georgia.
Stories parallel to Greece. On the other hand, if we draw an imaginary line from the coast of Georgia, if we pass through the straits of the Dardanelles, we reach the northern end of Thessaly. It is very possible, therefore, that contact between the ancient Greeks and the ancient Georgians was possible.
MEET GEORGIAN CULTURE: THE PROFIT
If these ancient peoples made these journeys in order to get to know each other, why should we, in our own time, not come into contact with those who have come to our country? What one understands is that this contact leaves both people with much to gain. It is no coincidence that the father of the gods in the Greek dodecatheon was also called Xenios Zeus. The one who cares for strangers.
Such a contact would give us information about the one who lives in the same area as us. We would know his history. We would know what brought him here and, more importantly, why he left his country. These and many other things are the reason to make this contact that would make us richer in our knowledge.
MEET GEORGIAN CULTURE: THE COMPLETION
The easiest way is to create events that will tell us about Georgian culture. At least in the big cities of Greece this makes sense and is of huge interest. It makes the one who came to our «home» see us more friendly, to contribute to the common way of life, to the community. To finally conquer the We, that which surrounds our ego.
With these thoughts in mind, we are organizing a series of events focusing on Georgian culture: films, dances, music, books, photos. And what follows will be exciting. Have a nice trip to the world of culture, let’s enjoy this fascinating world.
